Youngsters Turn on the Action at Junior Sprints

The fifth round of the Slideways Junior and Cadet Racing Series at Slideways Go Karting World Pimpama once again turned on the action, with high quality fields of Cadets (aged 7 to 11 years) and Juniors (aged 12 to 15 years) pouring on the action.

The next outing for the Juniors will be on Sunday August 19 on the normal track direction, and like all Slideways race events, early bird entries entitle the driver to a free bonus practice session.

In other upcoming events, the Slideways Sprint Series and Slideways Ladies Sprint Cup return this Wednesday night, with the Sodi World Series portion of the evening running to a mini-enduro format of twin 15-minute-long races followed by a 30-minute final. Online entries can be lodged here.

Meanwhile the Slideways Enduro Series is set to continue on Wednesday August 1st, with a 75-minute race on the normal track direction. For more information on all Slideways Race Events, check out the Gold Coast Go Kart Race Days page.

In other happenings at Slideways Go Karting World Pimpama, the Slideways Karting Academy is gaining momentum, with weekly tuition teaching drivers of all ages the finer points of race craft.

More insight is available on the Academy webpage.

Cadets

As per all Slideways Sprint events, the line-up for the races saw a random grid for the opening race, inverted for the second, with combined points determining the starting order for the finale.

Carter Skewes drew grid one, from Luke Wilson, Lachlan Trevillien, Javier Fernandez, Daniel Sullivan, Matthew Scholten, Zachary Naylor, Jordi Slater and Brayden Hill.

A slick cold track made conditions tricky for the opening race, with a first corner accident spreading the field wide open.

Following ten laps, six-tenths of a second split the podium trio of Trevillien, Hill and Sullivan, with Skewes next home from Scholten, then Slater, Naylor, Wilson and Fernandez.

Fastest on-track was Sullivan with a best lap time of 46.467sec.

Naylor took the advantage in the second heat, beating home Hill and Slater.

Next was Sullivan ahead of Wilson, Skewes, Fernandez, Trevillien and Scholten.

Sullivan was once again fastest on circuit with a top time of 46.151sec.

Hill took full advantage of his pole position for the final race, leading home a classic, with the top three completed by Sullivan and Naylor, with only half a second splitting the trio at the chequered flag.

Trevillien was next home, edging out Skewes in a photo finish by only 0.045sec!

Sixth went to Scholten from Wilson, Slater and Fernandez, while Slater was the fastest on track with a best time of 46.245sec.

In the overall points for the day it was Hill from Sullivan and Naylor, while Fernandez scored the Encouragement Award, and Skewes was named Best and Fairest.

Jude Livermore started from pole for race one, ahead of newcomer Leo Ninness, Juliette Russell, Lewis Spencer, Liam Hydes, Chaad Hewitt, Jacques Goodman, Olivia Herbison, Stefanie Wilmott and a second first time starter in Cameron Willett.

Livermore took full advantage of his top starting slot to claim the opener, although he was pushed all the way by Russell, who fell just 0.779sec short after 12 circuits.

Goodman came across the line third following a tight battle, with Hydes fourth, from Herbison, Spencer, Hewitt, Wilmott, Ninness and Willett.

Goodman was the fastest on track with a top time of 39.947sec.

For the second heat, Herbison worked her way through from third into the lead and resisted a maximum pressure attack from Hydes to claim the win, while Wilmott drove a sensational race to claim third, just edging out Russell, Spencer, Goodman, Livermore, and Hewitt, with the finishers rounded by out Ninness and Willett.

Quickest on track was Hydes with a best lap of 39.844sec.

For the finale it was Hydes on pole position, with the reigning champion clearing away from the field to take the victory by a clear margin, with a best lap time of 39.646sec.

Herbison held on for second after being pushed all the way by third place finisher Russell, with Goodman close behind in fourth, ahead of Spencer and Livermore.

Wilmott just edged out Hewitt, with Ninness and Willett showing improvement through the day.
