A final three hour long hit out concluded an awesome season of public race events at Slideways Go Karting World Pimpama, with some sporting legends dropping by to join the fun.

Setting the tone for the evening, motorsport legend Dick Johnson was the honorary starter for the event, joined trackside by son Steven Johnson, who along with Supercars star Dean Canto were cheering on young gun Jett Johnson, while Iron Man champion Guy Andrews took the wheel for his first Slideways event.

The eight strong field for the night saw many strong combinations hit the track.

Topping the entry were consistent front runners Global Action Photography, with drivers Jake Albertson, Pete Brown and Camron Robertson.

Streamline Karting have been front runners throughout 2018, with drivers Christian Bishop, Jacques Goodman and Phil Edwards, while Profile Autosports made a welcome return to Slideways competition with drivers William Tait, Leigh Di Pietro and Clinton Hocking.

GJK Racing have been the the team to beat all season long, with drivers Gavin, Jackson and Keenan Faulkner taking the wheel, while the HJR Racing crew of young guns Liam Hydes, Jett Johnson and Juliette Russell were out to make a point.

HP Racing’s Stefan Russell, Clayton Hydes and Lenny Navavia were out to prove experience could overcome youth, while the Triple Seven squad of Andrews, Ronald Funk and Jimmy Lau were making their debut appearance.

Rounding out the starters were LBL Racing, with young guns Lewis Spencer and Leo Ninness joined by Bianca Williams.

The evening kicked off with each driver taking part in a five-minute-long qualifying session, with the combined times determining the starting order.

For qualifying, all karts were random drawn, while the Sodi weight box system was used throughout the event, ensuring a level playing field for all.

Jackson Faulkner (40.434sec) topped his qualifying session ahead of Liam Hydes, Spencer, Bishop, Albertson, Clayton Hydes, Hocking and Andrews, Keenan Faulkner (40.149sec) was fasted in his outing, ahead of Navavia, Juliette Russell, Edwards, Brown, Tait, Williams and Funk, while Goodman (41.201sec) prevented a GJK whitewash in his session, leading home Gavin Faulkner, Robertson, Johnson, Di Pietro, Ninness, Stef Russell and Lau.

The grid line up saw GJK Racing claim pole from Streamline Karting, HJR Racing, Global Action Photography, HP Racing, LBL Racing, Profile Autosports and Triple Seven.

The rules for the race were simple: seven compulsory pit stops, with all drivers to complete 50 minutes behind the wheel.

From the outset, there was no looking back for GJK Racing, who cleared out to an eventual three lap margin of victory, along the way setting an incredibly consistent pace, and a fastest lap time of 39.737sec.

Global Action Photography were as strong as ever in claiming second place, one lap clear of third place Streamline Karting.

Fourth went to HJR Racing, from Profile Autosport, LBL Racing, HP Racing and Triple Seven.

Outside of GJK Racing, a little over a second split the fastest lap times of all teams, with six of the eight karts sitting within the 40sec bracket.

All in all, the racing was clean, with some awesome battles throughout the pack.

In other awards on the evening, Liam Hydes received the Best & Fairest prize, while Juliette Russell received the Encouragement Award.
