Juniors & Cadets Take Over Pimpama – includes FULL RACE VIDEO!

The Slideways Junior & Cadet Sprint Series took over Slideways Go Karting World yesterday for the fifth round of the 2019 season.

Two bumper fields greeted the starter for three 10-minute-long races, which followed on from a short-sharp qualifying session, all contested on the reverse track direction.

The classes were split based on age – 12 to 15 years in Juniors, and 7 to 11 years in Cadets.

Like all Slideways race event, the day was run for points in the Slideways Scholarship Program, which has the ultimate goal of getting Slideways racers on the grid at Bathurst.

Juniors

Qualifying for the Juniors was extended, with overnight rain leaving the track damp around the edges.

At the end of the session, it was Chaad Hewitt on top (41.044sec) from Carter Skewes, Olivia Herbison, Ethan Bryson, Elliot Cleary, Brayden Hill, Campbell MacMillan, Jack Stimson, Jordyn Durrington, Luc Jacobsen, Jett Johnson, Fred Murphy and Brody Slacksmith.

Hewitt took full advantage of his pole position to win the opener by 0.933sec over Skewes, setting a best lap time of 40.010sec en route to the chequered flag.

Third went to Herbison from Hill, MacMillan, Jacobsen, Stimson, Johnson, Durrington, Bryson, Cleary, Murphy and Slacksmith.

With the random invert in play for the grid order for race two, it was MacMIllan who came through for the win, with the top five covered by less than a second.

Hill was second ahead of Herbison in a photo finish, then Skewes, Hewitt, Jacobsen, Cleary (fast lap – 40.137sec), Bryson, Stimson, Durrington, Murphy, and Slacksmith.

Hewitt once again did the job in the final, beating Skewes by 0.868sec, setting a best lap time of 39.749sec on his way to the win.

Herbison was third from MacMillan, Cleary, Jacobsen, Johnson, Stimson, Durrington, Hill, Bryson, Slacksmith and Murphy.

In the overall points for the day it was Hewitt from Skews and Herbison, with the best and fairest points going to Hewitt, Skewes and Hill.

In the series standings after five round it is Hewitt on top from Cleary, Skewes, Bryson and Herbison.

Cadets

Qualifying for the Cadets saw Luke Wilson (46.766sec) claim pole position ahead of Zachary Naylor, Brock Helm, Daniel Sullivan, Jordi Slater, Cooper Lovett, Ellie Wilson, Annabel Kennedy, Dylan Kammerlocher, Colton Farr and Jack Fidge.

Luke Wilson used his prime starting position to take the race one win by 0.266sec, ahead of Naylor, Sullivan, Helm, Slater, Eillie Wilson, Kennedy, Lovett, Fidge, Kammerlocher, and Farr, with Naylor the fastest on track with a time of 46.021sec.

With the top-three inverted for race two, Sullivan claimed with victory from Helm, Naylor, Slater, Ellie Wilson, Lovett, Luke Wilson, Kennedy, Kammerlocher, Fidge and Farr, with the fastest on circuit being Helm, with a 46.195sec time.

From pole, Wilson ran away from the pack in the opening laps, edging out Naylor by 1.940sec.

Third was Slater, from Sullivan, Helm, Ellie Wilson, Kammerlocher, Fidge, Kennedy, Farr and Lovett, with the fastest on track being Naylor (46.042sec).

The overall podium for the day featured Luke Wilson, Naylor and Sullivan, while the best and fairest points went to Slater, Naylor and Ellie Wilson.

In the latest Slideways Series points, it’s Luke Wilson from Naylor, Sullivan, Helm and Slater.

The earlybird entry is open until midnight on the Monday prior to each event, while the FREE practice race can be used anytime on the Wednesday or Thursday prior to the event, but remember: always phone ahead and book to avoid disappointment!

NB: Early Bird FREE practice is not eligible to be used for the Slideways Karting Academy.

Recreational go kart racing can now take you right through to being on the grid at Bathurst!

  • Every single race at Slideways Race Events count towards the season pointscore in determining the Slideways PWR Scholarship Program recipients – consistency throughout the year counts!
